I'm not a fan of magical realism (why is it so much more magical than any other kind of prose?) but Ben Okri's fable is so rich and cheerful, it's impossible for even a cold hearted cynic like me not to love it. It's the story of a child who decides not to die, but to stay in the world of humans and try and make sense of us. Kerstin Ekhart did much the same thing with 'Forest of Hours' with different but equally moving results.
